Book Review: Luna and Simon Comics

A note before reading: These comics have been produced as outreach for microbiology projects which I have been a part of. I wouldn’t say I was the most valuable part of the project but I have handed these comics out at outreach festivals and I have a vested interest in getting people more excited about microbiology. These comics are available to read for free at www.andthemicrobes.org or feel free to come to a science outreach festival attended by someone from the Multi-Defence Consortium and I am sure they will have many copies to give out.

The Short Version

The Luna and Simon adventures currently span three comics. They aim to make complex microbiology fun and accessible.

Luna and Simon comics are a series of adventures based around two siblings. Luna is

They use the make believe worlds that children can create and use it to focus on aspects of microbiology.

Focusing on only two characters leads to a lot of pressure on the personalities and appearances of them. I think it accurately represents the relationships between many siblings, one enthusiastic and precocious and the other being

Each comics ends with a page about how this relates to what happens int he lab and the final page has a fun activity.

There are three comics in the Simon and Luna series and we will tackle each one individually.

It seems fitting to have a fun light read for August and the summer holidays.
